Rule revisions in progress

The Texas Commission on Fire Protection is continually reviewing and updating its rules. The following table is intended to help track proposed and pending rule changes through the rule revision cycle. The table includes the following fields:

Rule number/title.
Identifies the rule number and title under revision. The link in this column goes to the current rule language.
Advisory committee.
Most rule revisions begin with the fire fighter advisory committee. The link in this column shows the date at which the committee considered the proposed change. The link goes to the rule language as first reviewed by the FFAC.
First commission hearing.
All rule revisions must go to the commission twice; at the first hearing the commission may approve proposed changes for publication in the Texas Register. The link goes to the rule language as first reviewed by the commission; the commission may change the proposed language before approving it for publication.
Texas Register proposed.
Once the commission approves a rule for publication, the proposed language is published in the Texas Register. Upon this first publication, the proposed rule is open for public comment for 30 days after the publication date. (Please send comments to info@tcfp.texas.gov. The commission is required to address public comments when it considers a proposed rule change for final adoption.)
Second commission hearing.
The commission may adopt proposed rule changes at the second hearing. The commission may make non-substantive changes at the second hearing. It must also address any public comments received.
Texas Register final.
This is the final version of the rule change.
Effective date.
The date the rule change goes into effect.

Notes: The Texas Register versions include "preamble" links which explain the intent and impact of the proposed rule changes. Although there is a 30-day formal public comment period following the first publication in the Register, all advisory committee and commission meetings are public meetings. The commission encourages its customers and the public to attend the meetings and bring to the table any concerns about proposed rule changes.

Last update: November 13, 2017.
