The “special temporary provision” (which will allow you to take the state certification exam without first having to take an approved course) begins next month. Here are the important dates you need to know:
8/1/23 Check your FIDO account! If you meet the prerequisites, your FIDO account will show that you are eligible to test starting 8/1/23. If your account does not show that you are eligible, please check the rules for this certification to see what you are missing.
Also on this date, eligible individuals can submit applications and payments online through your FIDO account for either a written or online exam.
8/31/23 No exams will be given before this date.
8/1/24 No applications to take the exam under the special temporary provision will be accepted after this date.
8/30/24 This is the last date you can take the Fire Marshal exam under the temporary provision. Individuals needing to retest can do so past this date if they are within the 180 days allowed by TCFP rule.
After 8/30/24 you must pass an approved course in order to take the Fire Marshal certification exam.
If you get confused, have questions, or need help, send us an email: testing@tcfp.texas.gov

Please be aware of a possible employment scam. There has been at least one incident of someone pretending to be the "Operating Manager" of the TCFP who made a false offer of employment for a remote-only position with the agency.
This may or may not be an isolated incident. Please click on the attachment to see an example of a fake letter with offer of employment. The TCFP does not hire for remote-only positions. We will never request that a prospective employee deposit a check into a candidate's account for equipment fees. We also want to remind job seekers that any employment opportunities will always be posted on our official website. Anyone with questions about employment with the TCFP can send an email to hr@tcfp.texas.gov.
