Written examinations are administered at various regional testing sites. Please see the map below.

Start times for regional exams are as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m.
  • 10:15 a.m.
  • 1:15 p.m.
  • 1:45 p.m. (only if scheduled to take both HazMat Operations and HazMat Awareness examinations)

Exam times will be assigned by TCFP staff based upon discipline and space availability at the exam location. Seats are allocated based on the date we receive your application.

The Basic Structure Fire Fighter and the Basic Structure Fire Fighter/Intermediate Wildland Fire Fighter examinations can only be administered at academy testing sites, not at regional testing sites (Please contact the commission to obtain the "Academy Examinations" schedule for locations, dates, and times).

The application(s), training documentation, and required testing fees must be received at agency headquarters, PO Box 2286, Austin, Texas 78768-2286, no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to your first requested test date. The headquarters office personnel in Austin, Texas will handle all questions and scheduling issues. If there are any questions, please call (512) 936-3811 and ask for a Training Approval and Testing Program staff member. The commission reserves the right to change testing dates, locations, and/or room assignments.

Examinees must report to the test site at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled test time. Business attire is required at all regional testing sites: No shorts, sandals, or inappropriate clothing.
